Eff Yew
How can you say
there’s not enough
when there’s one of you
and a million of us
How can you say
there’s not enough
when there’s one of you
and a million of us
Eff you.
Eff all of you.
The billions you own
The capital you’ve grown
The chaos you’ve sown
in our families and homes
Eff you.
Eff all of you.
Three thousand
billionaires
on Earth.
And
eight billion
of the rest of us.
Eight.
Billion.
How can you say
there’s not enough
when there’s one of you
and a million of us
There’s not enough
you always say
There’s not enough
for y’all
There’s not enough
to feed everyone
to house everyone
to save everyone
To move everyone
to the homes we’ll need
when the temperatures rise
and the planet heats.
The result of your greed.
No matter our pleas
you’ll let our kids drown
in the waters.
Like lambs to the slaughter
We march to your heed
Our sweat is the tempo
Our blood is the beat
But why should so many
serve so few
when we can’t even live
We can’t even live
How can you say
there’s not enough
when there’s one of you
and a million of us
How can you say
there’s not effing enough
when there’s
three thousand, four hundred twenty-eight
of you
effing billionaires
and
eight billion
three hundred
sixteen million
nine hundred
seventy five thousand
of us
It’s Not Chocolate, But It’s Brown
I want chocolate.
I really want chocolate.
I want its sweetness.
I want it close.
I got something here.
Is this chocolate?
It doesn’t smell like chocolate.
But it seems fine.
I guess I’ll have it.
I feel desperate.
It’s something I’ve wanted
for a while.
It’s underwhelming.
It’s disappointing.
But it’s all I’ve got,
for now, I guess.
Who am I kidding?
I’ve been around.
I know real chocolate
when freaking I see it.
This stuff ain’t it.
I don’t know what it is.
But it’s not chocolate.
It’s not what I wanted.
I’m sick of chocolate.
I’m sick of wanting it.
Can’t I be happy with
my little brown mess?
Cuz what I got here
doesn’t taste like chocolate.
But at least it’s brown.
At least
it’s brown.
The Turkey At My Window
It was a rainy Sunday
I looked outside and saw
A gobbley, mean old turkey
Quite feathered and quite raw
It looked at me with beady eyes
I felt my hackles raise
I stepped back, then I realized
I did not hold its gaze
The bird was facing its reflection
A window as its mirror
I breathed a sigh of quick relief
and tiptoed slightly nearer
The turkey danced before its foe
And cocked its pointy head
It pecked resoundly on the glass
Until its pecker bled
I looked up at the clock
About an hour had passed
I wondered just how long
this stupid bird was gonna last
Then finally, it snapped.
It cried out with a GUUUUUHHH!!!
It circled one more time
and then it simply shuffled off.
Could it be a metaphor
for circling one’s dream?
Or just as if you’re fighting with
your deepest inner being?
I’d like to say there was a point
for which it was a symbol
But all it really was
was a turkey at my window
